After thirty years of looking at life, listening to people and working as a carpenter, Jesus spent forty days alone and then shared His thinking…
“The time has come. The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1.15)
“Now is the moment. God is within arm’s reach. Think again. I’ve got good news for you!”
How on earth could such a simple declaration have shaped the history of the world? Well, it truly is very straightforward! It’s an invitation to think differently – and then turn right around and start all over again! Millions have responded.
Let’s turn it around and aim it at ourselves…
“I’ve got good news for you! Think again. God is within arm’s reach. Now is the moment.”
So here in a nutshell is how Jesus Christ thinks…
“In the middle of your ordinary life, there is good news and I’m bringing it to you. Turn your thinking around and start again. Realize that God is nearby and reach out to Him. Do it now!”
This has proved a more powerful way of thinking, a more practical philosophy of life and a more effective plan of action for change, than anything else yet devised. Thinking like Jesus Christ – thinking Christianly – is as good as it gets!
The Gospel of Mark is the shortest account of the life and thinking of Jesus that we have. It’s ‘Concentrated Good News!’
Mark begins his Gospel like this…
“The beginning of the good news about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” (Mark 1.1)
Jesus began His three years of speaking and action with this…
“The time has come. The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1.15)
He first caused controversy by saying this about Himself…
“The Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” (Mark 2.10)
He marked the high point of His ministry with this question…
“Who do you say I am?” (Mark 8.29)
He began the last week of His life with this declaration…
“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10.45)
The first people who visited His grave were told this…
“Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here!” (Mark 16.6)
And Mark ends his Gospel like this…
“Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.” (Mark 16.20)
